We were so fascinated by this work, we had to share it. Marta was kind enough to share her thoughts on this project, why she did it, and what it means to her.
Satwaland Icons is a ‘Do It Yourself’, street-life portraiture project. A spin-off of Marta’s ongoing Pakistani Gardeners project. Where people can enter the Photo Booth, dress, and get a picture taken of them.
The project shows cultural identities expressed through fashion when roaming streets. This project came about, simply, because of her inspiration from “normal people from the streets. Different from London were graveyards and dark colours dominate, Dubai is filled with bright colour. The Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Indian and African cultures all come together here in Dubai. Which essentially is reflected in these colourful images created by Marta. Marta’s intention – to APPRECIATE diverse cultures.
