THE DEETS

Al Bastakiya, AKA Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is a place that reeks of the good old days. Originally, it was built for sixty housing units in the 1890s. Almost one hundred years later, Bastakiya was ordered to be demolished. British architect Rayne Otter started the renovation of Bastakiya and involved Prince Charles to help with the preservation of the complex. The Prince of England however, openly suggested that Bastakiya should remain as is. This stopped the demolition plans, making it available for you to experience one of the oldest districts of Dubai. Dubai’s Municipality recently took over to restore and renovate the entire area, giving it a unique vibe and adding some contemporary touches such as street art.  Al Bastakiya quarter – the oldest residential area in the city – where you must explore Dubai’s memories before the tourism boom, the discovery of oil or the union of the seven Emirates. Learn all about Dubai in the early 19th century at Al Bastakiya; as well as its evolution to a more contemporary scene through exploring the stops on this tour, all while appreciating the traditional wind tower architecture in the area and keeping an eye out for the many street art murals. You can take the green line to Al Fahidi metro station or take an Abra from Dubai’s Creek – to Al Bastakiya quarter – the oldest residential area in the city – where you must explore Dubai’s memories before the tourism boom, the discovery of oil or the union of the seven Emirates. Some amazing places within Bastakiya are Kashmir Artistic Heritage, XVA Art Gallery, Coffee Museum and it’s public rooftops. Al Bastakiya is STOP 3 on the ROCKERS GUIDE Tour.
