You must be familiar with the term ‘Dhows’. Surely you have heard or seen the traditional wooden shits from the UAE. Alongside their beauty, they represent an important part of the UAE’s economy; international trade being at its heart.
Since the formation of the UAE, it has long-standing ties with Iran. These beautiful Dhows commerce between Iran and Dubai in a 35-hour water crossing. Transporting everything from livestock, perishable foods, electronics to clothing.
The Dhow Wharfage is the docking port and resting spot for many Iranian captains. If you’re lucky, you can meet one of the captains who enthusiastically will show you around his ship. Many won’t understand English, hence, a gesture of giving them cookies to drink with tea will most likely get you invited onto the ship.
The port is STOP 1 on the DHOW WHARFAGE tour.
